Marketing is something we do proactively on a day-to-basis. It involves strategy, planning, listening, reacting and adapting.

With so many things to consider when marketing your brand, it’s easy to forget a few elements, or overlook a simple tactic in favor of something new, shiny or trending (curiosity marketing, anyone?).

We took to Facebook to ask our community what they thought the most overlooked marketing tactic is. Here are a few of their answers.

We think that all of these answers could be correct. As marketers, we discover new information every day. Statistics on marketing such as the fact that 61% of online consumers use the web for shopping research or half of online ads aren’t 50% in view for even a second cause of to think about new ways of being visible in the online sphere. Stats on the increase of mobile and tablet users and the rise of SoLoMoCo incite us to reshape our strategies. Though we’re evolving and adapting to the evolution of marketing and PR, it’s important to emphasize fundamental principles of business that commonly end up being the differentiation factor between the big wigs and the noobs:  excellent customer service, listening,  exceeding expectations and a little whimsy called *gasp* human interaction can be key.

So what’s Vocus’ verdict? We say social media. In a recent study conducted by Vocus and Duct Tape Marketing, it seems that the perception of social media influence varies and belief that social media is beneficial to business is lower than expected – hovering right under 50%. However, projected spend for social media going into 2013 is expected to increase, due to social media gains like increased traffix, buzz, advocacy and even sales.
